Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Nothing happens when I try to open the eMag.
A: Our eMags open inside of a pop-up window. If you're using a pop-up blocker, or if you have Javascript disabled, you will have trouble opening the eMag. If you are using a pop-up blocker, you should see some sort of indication that a pop-up was blocked when you try to open the eMag. Generally, you can click on this message or icon to allow the pop-up to open.

Q: The pop-up appears when I click to open the eMag, but I get a message saying that I don't have the Flash plug-in, or that I don't have the correct version.
A: Our eMag requires the Flash 8 player or newer. If you don't have Flash, or if you have an earlier version, you'll need to get the free upgrade (available at http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer). The upgrade is a very small download and generally takes less than 2 minutes.

Q: When I try to upgrade Flash, I get a message saying that I'm not allowed to.
A: In order to install or upgrade Flash, you need to be an administrator on your computer. If your company has a policy against allowing users to install or upgrade plug-ins, or if you're using a computer at an Internet cafe or other public place, you will need to have someone who is an administrator install or upgrade the plug-in.

Q: When I try to install Flash, it tells me it is successful, but I still get the message "...Flash version: undefined" and the eBook still says I need Flash.
A: Your version of Flash isn't installed correctly. Please download Adobe's Flash uninstaller, close all your browser windows (including this one) and instant messaging programs, run the uninstaller, and then revisit our site to re-install flash.

Q: Why do you use Flash? Why not use PDF or plain text/html?
A: Using Flash allows us to integrate text, audio, video, and live data into a rich multimedia experience that goes far beyond the capabilities of ordinary Web pages or PDFs.

Q: The bottom of the eMag is cut off. How can I get the full screen? I have a 17 inch monitor so that should not be the problem.
A: We've designed our eMag to be viewed on a monitor set to a resolution of at least 800 pixels by 600 pixels. If your monitor is smaller, the eMag window will scroll.

Q: The eMag appears to be laid out for "landscape" page setup rather than "portrait". Would it be possible to lay it out such that the dual pages are a little higher and narrower (there wouldn't seem to be any need to diminish the type size)?
A: The format is designed for reading on screen. Because computer monitors, unlike paper, are wider than they are tall, we've designed our publication the same way. We've provided printing options for your convenience, but If you print single pages, you will need to print in landscape mode.

Q: I cannot read the articles. The lead screen comes up fine, but I cannot advance pages or do anything once I have that image.
A: You might not have the latest version of the Flash Player. Go to http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer to get the free upgrade.
